Dining Out

Welcome to the Dining Out page.
Come back often to look for some good suggestions on places to eat that offer healthier alternatives to keep you on the track of good health.

Friends, Petersburg
There are actually several options on the menu that can give you some satisfaction of making some healthier choices. Although there are no vegetables offered other than iceberg lettuce, slaw, and several starches. i.e. white potatoes fixed different ways (you can order a plain one without all the "loading"), there are several types of salads from which to choose. There are also some "lighter fare" salad dressings for salads.  For some smart choices, there are grilled tenderloin, grilled chicken, and steak sandwiches.(There is also, I hear, the option of grilled fish.) Request to skip the bun and instead add on the tomatoes, lettuce, and grilled onions. In the evening, there are steak dinners offered as well as ham steak and pork chops. Just remember to go light on the red meat the remainder of the week. To drink, there is unsweetened tea and coffee.

 The Millhouse, Jasper
Normally, there is a choice of two soups, one more of a cream based, and one more tomato-based and lighter fare. Another idea is the "pick two" or "pick three" entree meal. For two people, this is plenty of food with little extra high carbohydrates or sugar. Opt for the steamed broccoli for the side and the smaller meat portions keep the serving sizes much more in line with daily guidelines.

If you can find a restaurant that offers a wide variety of breakfast foods all day, you're in a good place. Two Brothers is just the place. One omelet filled with veggies and leaner choices of ham (skip the cheese) will more than satisfy even a larger appetite. The omelets come with a choice of pancake or toast. It's easy enough to skip these if you're looking to cut back on gluten and/or simple carbohydrates. Opt for some fruit instead.
